Capabilities

Design that starts with your users, not our assumptions.

We test every design decision against how your users actually behave, to lower the risk of adoption failure and avoid costly rework.

A product interface being designed

UX & UI design

Every design decision should survive contact with real users. We use LUMA-accredited research methods to validate ideas before they become expensive engineering decisions.

That approach earned our redesign of the Doctors’ Health Fund member portal a Good Design Award, and helped Sonder scale a $1.4B media management platform.

Researchers reviewing notes from a discovery session

Discovery & research

Before we design anything, we find out what’s actually happening. Interviews, workshops and market analysis give us the evidence to define the problem before we design around it. This approach helped Macquarie University lift student retention through research-led redesign.

A customer journey map in progress

Journey mapping

Once we know the problem, we map how it actually plays out for your users, step by step. This surfaces friction that's usually invisible from the inside, and gives us evidence to decide what deserves attention first. We used this approach to reduce dropouts in Red Cross’ donation journey.

A mobile product prototype

Prototyping

Working prototypes let your team test ideas early, while changes are still quick and inexpensive to make. It's cheaper to change a prototype than a live product.

For Val Morgan, testing before development avoided a $300,000 investment in a product customers didn’t need. For Flock Finance and Rockmelon, prototyping moved them from product concepts to investor-ready prototypes, helping to secure more than $3m in funding.

An accessible interface being tested

Accessibility

We design and test against WCAG AA - the same standard we built to for Healthdirect’s national service finder and Service NSW’s mapping tool, designed around the needs of senior citizens.

Accessibility is a foundation of our design process, worked in from the time we start designing.

What our design partners say

From The George Institute’s regional health app to DHF’s member portal, here’s what it’s like working with our design team.

“At all stages, Airteam’s goal was to tease out exactly what we were looking for and how the workflow would be implemented on the ground. This led to a final design which was attractive, modern and accurately reflected how our product would be used by our end-users.”

Ruth Webster

The George Institute

“Airteam successfully harnessed the knowledge and experience of our people and translated that into an environment where our members have better access to information and services in an intuitive and visually appealing portal.”

Design technologies

Our use of AI in design

We use AI for repetitive work such as synthesis and documentation, which gives our designers more time for research, testing and design decisions.

Every AI-assisted output is reviewed by a senior designer before it reaches your team.

What design services do you offer?

Our LUMA-accredited team work across UX and UI design, discovery and user research, journey mapping, prototyping and accessibility. You can engage our design team for a specific piece of work, such as validating a product idea, or as part of a larger software project from discovery through to development.

Can you work with our existing development team?

Yes. We regularly work alongside internal development teams and other technology partners. We involve developers early enough to test technical constraints and trade-offs, then provide the designs, specifications and context your team needs to build from.

How much do your design services cost?

The investment depends on what you need to learn or design. A focused research or prototyping engagement will naturally cost less than designing a complex product from discovery through to development handover. Once we understand the problem, scope and level of validation required, we’ll recommend an approach and give you a clear estimate before work begins. Share a few details through our contact form and we'll put together a quote.

Do you test designs with real users?

Yes, where the project calls for it. We use research, prototypes and usability testing to put important assumptions in front of real users before they become expensive engineering decisions. The right level of testing depends on the risk: sometimes a focused prototype is enough; for more complex products, research and validation may continue throughout design and development.

Can you improve an existing product, or do you only design new ones?

Both. If you have an existing product, we can use research, analytics and usability testing to understand where users are getting stuck and what is worth changing. If you’re starting with an idea, we can validate the problem, prototype different approaches and build enough evidence to decide what should be developed.

How long does the design process take?

It depends on what needs to be resolved before development can begin. A focused piece of research or prototyping may take a few weeks, while a complex product involving multiple user groups, workflows and rounds of testing will take longer. We’ll scope the work around the decisions you need to make, rather than stretching every project through the same design process.
